SSH to lectura - connection problems from home

When I SSH to lectura from home, I get the message "ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host", then no connection. If I log into another campus system (e.g. hpc) then SSH to lectura, it works. Any idea why?

I am having trouble logging into lectura with SSH fromhome. When I try to connect, it prompts me for my password, and after a little while after trying to connect the password prompt pops up again with no error messages. After awhile, it gives an error message to the effect of 'authentication failed, either username or password is incorrect', then it says 'remote host disconnected'.

We have recently added a SSH security mechanism to lectura. If a certain number of failed logins occur, the IP address is blocked.

We have set a one hour time limit on this block.  You should be able to attempt to log in again after waiting 60 minutes or so.

If this fails, then send us your hostname or IP address and we'll check the logs and remove the block.
Ex. 69.252.xxx.xxx is a comcast IP with hostname: c-69-252-xxx-xxx.hsd1.ar.comcast.net

Remember, you can use our web-based SSH applet running on lectura:

http://lectura.cs.arizona.edu/ssh.html

Since this runs from a web browser, it is not affected by SSH blocking.

Incomplete information for problem solving provided.
The above is a perfect example of a quick fix made lengthy due to incomplete information submitted by the user.

Always identify the system(s) you are using, the time and date of the problem incident, what specifically you were trying to do, and the error message you are getting. If there is a set of commands that can replicate the problem, submit those as well.

Provide your CS account name, e.g., user@cs.arizona.edu, if you are emailing from non-CS system. We cannot necessarily identify your account and user area by your University email ID, or from you "Hotmail" user name.
