Electronic Door Access via CS Northern Computers Access Card.
Each student taking CS classes is issued an electronic key card (Northern Computers, Inc) that opens three doors on campus. These allow 24-hours per day, 7-days per week, 52 weeks per year access to the CS labs in Gould-Simpson 228 & 930. The access card can be used to unlock the building door closest to the 228 lab for weekend and evening access to the building.
If your access card does not work to open these doors there are three common reasons:
- You are swiping the card through the reader incorrectly (upside down or running it through the reader in the wrong direction or at an inappropriate speed). If you have an opportunity to observe others using their cards then try to mimic their use.
- Your card is not activated. This most often this happens at the beginning of the semester when cards are first issued and deactivated cards have been mixed in with active cards. You should bring the card to the CS Business Office and they will either issue you a different card or get you in contact with the Lab Staff to activate your current card.
- Your access card has in some way been broken either physically or electronically. In this case, go to the CS FAS Office in Gould-Simpson room 917 and get a replacement card issued.
If no one else is able to access the labs with their cards, then there is likely to be a problem with the door lock mechanism that should be reported immediately to lab.
