Connecting laptop in Labs

I tried plugging my laptop into the Ethernet cable of one of the lab machines but it didn't work. Why not?

This is the way it is supposed to work. The Ethernet connections in the Labs (GS228 and GS930) are restricted to the desktop machines in place there. Wireless access is available in these locations for your laptop. For wired Ethernet connectivity, GS737 (Commons Room) is your only option.
