Can the GS-228 or GS-930 lab be reserved for the local ACM Programming Contest?
GS-228 & GS-930 are open access labs for all students currently enrolled in CS courses. The Lab staff does not control reservations or ordinarily close the labs for a specific use. That being said, the labs in GS-228 and GS-930 are on occasion reserved for unique events. This reservation would need to be approved and formally submitted by a CS faculty member.
The correct procedure for the faculty member submitting a reservation request is for that faculty member to contact all other interested CS faculty that have classes using that lab and to confirm that there are no conflicts (e.g., assignments due at the reservation time, class requiring the use of the facility at that time, etc.). When all CS instructors have given their okay, then signs can be placed reserving the lab. The announcement of a lab closure should be posted at least two weeks in advance of the reservation date.
Lab staff can assist in setting up any special accounts or software needed for such an event.
I need the projector in GS-930 to present a team project for CSxxx, can I reserve GS-930?
Same situation as the above, but in this case there may be some alternatives to reserving a computation lab full of computers for a simple software presentation. CS has areas in GS-701, GS-906, and GS-942 that may be useful for such presentations. These rooms have projectors with an attached computer, white boards, and ample seating. If you only need to demo software or discuss project ideas, then those rooms may provide an acceptable alternative. Contact Academic Services (GS-901) for more information on reserving these rooms.
