What does "automatic admit" mean?

The term “automatic admit” refers to a student who has secured guaranteed major admission by earning As and Bs in all math and computer science courses and a 3.0 cumulative GPA.  However, despite popular belief, automatic admits are not automatically changed from pre-major to major status as soon as pre-major courses are complete.  Although admission is guaranteed, these students do still need to submit the application in order to initiate the admission process.
