Can I take my math classes at another school?

Is it OK if I take calculus at Pima Community College?

It is possible to complete your calculus requirements at another school.  However, there three things you need to consider when making this decision.  First, you need to find out if the class you’re planning to take would actually transfer to the UA as a direct equivalent of the course you need.  You can talk to your advisor to determine transferability.

Second, it is often unwise to split up a math sequence between two different schools.  For example, you may have difficulty if you take calc I at a community college and then come to UA to take calc II.  Try to complete your math sequences at the same school.

Finally, you must remember that in order to apply to the CS major you must fulfill a residency math requirement.  At least one of your math classes (calc I, calc II, linear algebra, or discrete mathematics) must be completed at the UA prior to your applying to the major.  If you have already completed all of these courses at another school, you must work with your advisor to find a different course to fulfill the residency math requirement.
