What is a CSID?
The Computer Science department has developed a unique, encrypted, numeric identifier for each CS student so as to maintain that student's privacy when personal information such as grades are posted.
Your Computer Science ID (CSID) is computed from your University of Arizona Student ID number. The CSID, as computed, is a 9 digit number, but only the last 6 digits are used to identify you. You can determine what your CSID is via our department's web based services page:
https://www.cs.arizona.edu/computing/services/.
There is sometimes confusion between the terms username and CSID. A CS username is the name that you enter when you login to CS computer systems, while the CSID is your secret identifier used for posting grades and to request additional services, e.g. Unix group creation, on the CS services web page.
Then what is a UA NetID?
Your UA NetID is your University issued personal identifier for a number of online services at the University of Arizona (not necessarily services provided by the Department of Computer Science). Some of the University services requiring a NetID include:
- E-mail and CCIT computing accounts (email.arizona.edu, u.arizona.edu (U-System), etc.)
- Web applications (Employee Link, Advisor Link, Form Link, Caucus, etc.)
- University site-licensed software
- CCIT computer labs
The UA NetID verifies your identity when you use many of the online services the University of Arizona provides. This ensures the privacy of your personal information and restricts the use of resources to those for whom they are intended. The UA NetID also consolidates the disparate authentication mechanisms of various UA online services, replacing several unique identifiers with a common one.
