I ran the apply program, but my account doesn't work.

If you have done this within the last 24-hours then you may have to wait until your application is processed.

Currently the following schedule is in operation:

  • Electronic access card - every two minutes
  • Unix/Lectura accounts - once per hour
  • Password change - once per hour
  • Windows accounts - once per day (approximately 6 p.m.)

I waited the appropriate amount of time, but I still can't logon.

Is this the first time that you have tried to log in to the machine and are having problems?

  • If yes, then remember that the username is in lower case and the initial password is the CAPITALIZED first six characters of your Student ID. (If your student ID is all numbers then the initial password is all numbers. If your student ID starts with an s then make sure that you use a capital S followed by five numbers. If you use the numbers on the keypad, make sure Num Lock is on.)
  • Have you tried a second machine or restarted the current machine and had the same problem?
  • Is your choosen account name between 2 and 8 characters? Account names longer than 8 characters are truncated to 8 characters. Use only the first 8 character of your choosen account name.

I logged into my account yesterday, but my account doesn't work today.

Have you tried the log in under the old password? If you can not log in under the old password and the new password, then it may be that you have mistyped or forgotten your new password.

The Caps Lock (and Num Lock, if you used numbers on the keypad) must be in the same configuration they were in when the password was typed in for the first time. If this fails, then you must reset your password to the original using the Apply program. There is no way for the Lab to find and inform you of your current password.

If this is not the first time that you have logged in and you have not changed your password, have you recently received a warning message sent to you by the Lab staff about being Over Quota (in your home directory or Profile)? Your account may have been closed if you have been ignoring such messages.

Have you tried a second machine or restarted the current machine and had the same problem?
