Accounts after graduation

What happens to my accounts when I graduate?

When you, as a CS major, graduate from our program (BS, MS, PhD) your computer accounts convert to alumni status automatically. (Accounts of non-CS graduates are deleted at the end of the semester; see your major department for alumni account options.) Alumni accounts are assumed to be accessed remotely; all office keys and electronic key cards must be returned to the department.

CS alumni account status means the following:

  • your Windows account is deleted
  • your Unix account remains open
  • your CS email account remains open*
  • your web space remains active
  • your disk quota for home directories and web space remain at (or revert to) standard student levels

*CS email (by default) continues to be redirected to email.arizona.edu after graduation.  Students may be able to retain their email.arizona.edu address and forward it to another account (see http://ccit.web.arizona.edu/index.php?id=2222).  Another option is to control forwarding of CS email via the On-Line Services page.

Each year, usually on the anniversary of your graduation (May or December), your alumni account will receive an account renewal email notice that contains a password and URL for use in extending the account for another year. Failure to renew your account via this procedure will result in the automatic, and permanent, deletion of the account and all associated files.

Typical reasons for alumni accounts being removed:

  • failure to renew (often folks fail to read/forward renewal notice email)
  • the account has gone over quota in general (home directory, web space, etc.)
  • inappropriate use of the account (all applicable Department and University guidelines remain in effect for CS alumni accounts)
