How do I get UMS set up on a machine?
The UMS system is maintained by the College of Medicine and is accessed via
Internet Explorer.
Access is restricted by IP address, so the first step is to get the IP address
of the machine and send a request to to Lloyd Shinn at CoM (info in UofA
directory).
Once the IP address is allowed access:
- install the Citrix client plug-in:
- run Internet Explorer as ntroot
(either by logging in as ntroot
or using Run
as... on C:\Program
Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe)
- point the browser to ums.arizona.edu
- The Message Center area will report that "You do not have the
MetaFrame Presentation Server Client (ActiveX) for 32-bit Windows
installed on your system." install the Citrix client plug-in by
clicking on MetaFrame Presentation Server Client for 32-bit Windows
and following the prompts
- close Internet Explorer
- create a shortcut for UMS
- right-click on the desktop and select New...Shortcut
- set the location to:
"c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://ums.arizona.edu
(note quotes are required)
- set the shortcut name to UMS
- move short cut to either All Users...Desktop or desired user's Desktop
